ANNOUNCEMENT AND CALL FOR ABSTRACTS
FOR THE
33RD ANNUAL NATIONAL CONGRESS OF THE
RURAL ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA (RuSAN) IN UNIVERSITY OF ILORIN, ILORIN, KWARA
STATE
The Rural Sociological
Association of Nigeria hereby invites papers for the 33rd edition of
the Annual National Congress of the Society on the theme "Nigerian
Economy and Rural Livelihoods: Opportunities and Resilience", which
has been scheduled to be held at the University of Ilorin, Kwara State
between 7 and 11 October 2024. This theme encompasses diverse
sub-themes that delve into the intricate relationship between the Nigerian
economy and rural livelihoods, as follows:
1. Energy deregulation and rural
livelihoods,
2. Welfare package
administration and corruption,
3. Resilience, coping
mechanisms, and rural livelihoods,
4. Government developmental
policies and advocacies by NGOs
Energy deregulation and its
impact on rural livelihoods, as a sub-theme, is out to explore how shifts in
energy policies influence the economic dynamics of rural communities. Also, the
administration of welfare packages and the persistent challenge of corruption,
as a sub-theme, seeks to investigate the effectiveness of social support
programmes in rural areas to address issues of mismanagement.
Resilience and coping mechanisms
form a vital aspect of this call to encourage research on how rural communities
navigate challenges and adapt to changes in their economic landscape. This
sub-theme aims to uncover the resourcefulness of rural populations in the face
of challenges and adversity.
Furthermore, the call seeks to
scrutinise government developmental policies and the advocacy efforts of
non-governmental organizations (NGOs). Researchers are encouraged to scrutinise
the impact of governmental initiatives on rural development and the role played
by NGOs in advancing the welfare of rural populations.
This call seeks scholarly
contributions to illuminate the interplay between the Nigerian economy and
rural livelihoods, exploring opportunities, challenges, and the resilience
exhibited by rural communities in the face of evolving economic landscapes.
